Someone recently asked my opinion on D&D Next. I’ve studied the playtest material but haven’t yet had the opportunity to see it in action. So far, the following sums up my position perfectly.
A more nuanced opinion will be forthcoming once I have actually played the damn thing.
That is delightful. Hoping to get my first chance to run it in a couple of weeks, having received all the PDFs a couple of nights ago. It seems to be what everyone’s talking about. Although maybe not in your case

I really have no idea what your position is, unless it’s “A sincere but godawful piece of kitsch.”

I think Jukka just wanted to make us watch that video, which has no relation to his actually opinion.

Kaj, you know me. Would I really make a post like this if I didn’t have an insufferably clever and deliberately obtuse explanation for everything already prepared?

Probably not, but you could have an insufferably clever and deliberately obtuse explanation for everything, the gist of which would be “I just wanted you to watch that video”.

Ah, but what if the insufferably clever and deliberately obtuse explanation is the main point and the video is merely an excuse for it?

I’d guess that the insufferably clever and deliberately obtuse explanation would be that (like with the song) it’s hard to tell if the game is supposed to be nostalgia or parody.
